Amaya Torres, AMFT

Hi! I am Amaya Torres, passionate about joining one’s journey towards self-love and acceptance by healing inner wounds that may be affecting everyday life. The beauty of life is that we have the power to continue evolving as much as we desire. I believe there is no end goal to becoming a better version of ourselves than we were yesterday. Every one of us has a story and with the growth from our stories we’re able to use our experiences to make this world a better place.

My goal is to equip you with tools that can be implemented instinctively during times in need. We will first understand what difficulties you feel currently. Then together we will dive into recognizing what past issues could be affecting you today in order to find closure.

I’m a bilingual Associate Marriage and Family Therapist fluent in English and Spanish. I understand seasons in life can become difficult to transition into. Therefore, I practice theories to cater to your needs such as person centered approaches, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and IFS principles while incorporating mindfulness based practices. I find that the Gottman method is effective for couples working towards strengthening their bond. My experiences with individuals, families and couples of diverse backgrounds has allowed me to expand the lens I use to deeply understand each unique perspective.

I was raised between Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California, experiencing a multicultural upbringing. I graduated from Cal Poly with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in the Art of Counseling, specifying in Marriage and Family Therapy from National University.

When you’re feeling ready to embark on your journey, trust yourself. You deserve to be heard and understood. I’ll be happy to answer any questions or doubts you may have.
